Next on the to do list is the front suspension complete strip+rebuild.I have looked at the workshop manual and it gives referance to using a dail test indicator to set the bearings and a test on the disc run out. Not having any of the above tools and any experience of using such items your help and advice would be most welcome to see me through

The bearing end float can be set by tightening the hub nut to the point that all the free play just disappears, then backing off to the next split pin hole. You should just be able to feel the small amount of end float when rocking the wheel top and bottom. (The problem is that you only get to be able to do it with experience, which unfortunatley you won't get until you've done it a few times.) You should be able to feel any excess run out on the discs when driving and braking.

The easiest way to check the disc run out is by braking when you are travelling along, if you get judder from the front wheels you know it's quite likely to be the discs. The only correct way of checking them on a dial is by removing them from the car and setting them up on a lathe. If they are not too far out they can be skimmed slightly. A minimum dimension has been given somewhere in the 'forum' but I can't remember what it is. Too much taken off the discs will result in them overheating and buckling.

I have never found it worth the bother of skimming the disks as DF says if they are too thin real problems ensue
