Geoff Arthur wrote: Hello Tom, I am the architect of my own missfortune. I do know this stuff but working on modern tatt has blunted my memory. As I measured a large voltage drop between the alternator and the battery I wired a new cable direct to the starter motor from the alternator thus eliminating 99% of the voltage drop but effectively wiring the ammeter out of circuit. I am going to have to run nice fat new shiny cables to and from the ammeter to achieve the desired result. Still I love the new alternator. I recommend this to everyone. My nice new halogen headlights actually work and I can see where I am going plus hear the (very unoriginal but hidden) stereo system at the same time as the heated rear window clears the view behind. I have arrived in the 21st century 60s style. Great. Now where did I leave my candle !!! Thanks for your help. In addition to that make sure the correct wire colour code is used as not only you will fall foul of any fault finding, but a subsequent owner will have an even bigger headache sorting it out. Believe me I know from bitter experience. I curse anybody who just uses the nearest wiring that is handy.
