I recommend the RAC. I have their "option 1" and it covers me for breakdowns in any vehicle either driver or passenger and whether I own it or not.
The good thing about it is, they will either recover the vehicle to a garage of your choice, or back to your home address, which I like, because I dont want my car......especially one of the old ones, left in the hands of some knuckle dragging retard.
You can also opt for "Home Start" and get three days free car hire too.........at extra cost.
You can also get a no claims discount.
I have used them three times in seven years with no problems at all. No recovery or breakdown service is ever quick enough though ! But all in all, they are pretty good.
I can also get a £10 voucher if you join on my recommendation ;D

Peter Best's Ecclisiastical policies for classic Rovers include breakdown. They give very good service via Brittania
I am also a member of GEM Motoring Assist where you can pick any breadown/recovery firm or they will find one and you pay them and reclaim the cost back from GEM

I am with Direct Line for recovery only. This year they want £95 (including No Callout discount) for one year cover, any vehicle that I am driving at the time of breakdown (including the Rover P5).
Only needed them once, when cam belt broke on the Vectra destroying the head. Got recovered to home then relayed next day to Vauxhall dealer - very good service.
Cheers
Adrian
