Went to start the car today ,just turns over Checked petrol and then spark plugs, hence no spark Placed my hand on coil and it nearly burnt me It was as hot as a kettle Any ideas what can cause this to be so hot,or is it because its had it. And can i get a replacement easy from a motorist discount centre Theres no markings on it,so does anyone know the model/make of it The car is a 1973 3.5 Saloon

The coil has probably failed - you need a standard 12v coil - Intermotor do one and so do Lucas. They were fitted to many cars of the 50s 60's and 70's including Ford, Austin and Minis. Wadhams/Holdens?Vehicle Wiring Products all do them MO and they are no very expensive
Make sure you do not get a ballasted type.
The various types are HA12, LA 12 but many sorts will do
PS a failed condesor can cause the points to burn together and the coil will be shorted out and ruined
If you still have the theif proof armoured set up you will have to carefully remove the fxing ring

As 72/73 car it will have the thief proof coil set up with the ignition switch on the column.
The coil is attached to the Servo with this set up and if you can see the cables then its clearly been opened up and replaced before. There should only be one yellow cable going up into the metal tube which goes to the ignition switch and another cable to the Dizzy. The others must be to some other accessories like electric fuel pump/rev counter?
It will no longer be thief proof but then they were not effective anyway!
