Another question for the initiated what is the resistance/watts or current drawn with the fine wire version? I went to David's to pick one up I left my meter at home I got a nice clean looking screen but it is O/C! so it would be good to know the correct figures when I pick another up.

You will be lucky few of these fine wire screens work very well these days - my saloon one cleared eventually but it was very patchy and could not really keep up in bad weather

Thanks for the input Phil I will keep looking for a good one or one that partialy works as my old girl will be tucked up in bed winter time! looking at the construction I think the problem would be the fine wires to the two main strips at the top if you look through a loupe they all look ok but they are just a sandwich construction and rely on pressure contact I think? It would still be good to know the current drawn or the watts I can work the rest out by ohms law

I'll see if I can measure the resitance on mine

That would be great Phil, thanks.

Phil if you remove fuse 121 stick an amp meter accross the terminals that would be the easy way of finding out what the heater is drawing in amps!

Said car is being broken so no wiring!

I have measured the resistance which is 76 Ohms so this explains its slowness in heating up.
The "modern" Triplex Hotline in my young P5B saloon measures 2.5 Ohms so somewhere nearer this fugure is to be looked for

Hi Phil thanks for the info 76 Ohms = 0.157 Amps = 1.88 watts so I would say that screen is faulty 2.5 Ohms = 4.8 Amps 57.6 watts which I would say is fine out of curiousity Phil try measuring the thin wire one in reverse to see if it is the same? I believe because of their construction they can suffer from a diode effect due to poor joints!
