Hello, a couple of times the P5B has come back from the MOT with the top left wire disconnected from the alternator relay (different garages, too). What are they up to? It causes the ammeter needle to flicker about, just like in the related topic. Any clues much appreciated!

Is this after welding has been done for the MOT? If so all I can think is they disconnect this rather than the battery to protect the alternator.Don't know whether it would though. I can't think of any other legitamate reason.

Might be worth asking them directly especially as they don't put it back on

Normally they would disconnect the battery if MIG welding to stop back EMF (spikes of high voltage/ induced current) going up the LT cable, as the battery is in the boot probably easier to pull the input to the alternator which will protect the regulator.

Good ideas, but it didn't need welding this time - only the brakes had to be freed off!

Terminal connector is loose or they boost charged the battery ?
