Vince,
Do you mean it won't fit it whilst in position with belt tensioned, or will fit in but not when rotated up for belt tension and hits the rocker cover?

If you're trying to fit an ACR (regulated) alternator in place of the 11AC fitted as standard,I think you will need the mounting bracket from a later P6 to get it to fit properly.

I suspect the problem is in that one word, "equivalent".
A genuine LR147 will fit, but only just, and the wire spring clip which holds the connector block onto the back of the alternator cannot be used. However, as the blade terminals are a tight fit, and there is no room for the connector block to move out of position anyway, the lack of this clip is not a problem.
You do have to insert the connector block and wiring into the back of the alternator before moving it into a running position and fitting the belt.

Vince, what's the model/part number for the QH Alternator?
It'll be a useful reference if others need to follow suit.
