Hi All, I've removed and changed the front speaker of my P5B with a modern one. The sound quality is much better than the original 6''x4'' one. Before I get the back seats out to expose the rear one, does anyone know if the rear speaker is the same size? That is 6''x4''? It would make sense for them to be the same. But you never know with illogical British engineering! Cheers, Richard

Best to wait for Phil to check but I think it is a 6" round cost fitted origonaly £5/15/5 which was a lot in the 1960's well over half a weeks wages for me

Wow! I'm glad I asked. You've just saved me wasting some money. I await your response Phil. If it is 6'' round then I might just leave it there, as buying a pair would leave another spare speaker! Thanks for your responses. Richard.
P.S. Just replacing the front one has already made quite an impact on the overall sound quality. So it wouldn't be the end of the world to leave things as they are.

I can confirm its 6" nominal actually as its a shade larger diameter. With the approved Radiomobile set up its meant to give the bass sound which it does if the radio can power it sufficiently and the cheaper radios of the time could not.
The front does not matter so much and this gives the treble effect which is just as well seeing as the space is limited.
Its quite a bother getting to it as the back seat squab has to be unbolted after removing the boot tank cover. The rear parcel shelf can then be carefully lifted out after removing a couple of hidden screws at the end finisher

Thanks Phil. I think I'll leave it as it is then. As I said, the sound quality is now quite acceptable, especially when playing CDs. Thanks, Richard.

I have fitted a new rear speaker and can confirm that a 6.5" speaker fits very well. The one I have actually put in is a Vibe SA-K60 obtained from an e bay seller as follows, though they do not seem to have it at the moment. search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQfrtsZ50QQsassZno1Q5ficeQ5fdogAll I have to do now is fit the rear seat belts I have promised for the family (the cross headed bolts don't want to move though I guess that should not come as a major surprise since they've probably been undisturbed for 38 years or so), and then get the rear seats parcel shelf etc back in place. The speaker was I think the easy bit.

Is that a 6.5" hole or cone? speakers were always sold by the cone diameter not the hole size

Hole! It rests on the top of the shelf
