Hello there. I'm preparing to put my Rover back together after it has been repsrayed. The rear windscreen is heated but there is no wiring coming from the car.
I want to connect the rear windscreen however. How should I make the connection? Should I solder a 12V wire to one side and a ground-wire on the other? Does it matter which side? Thnx
Best regards, Guus

I wouls not risk heat from a soldering iron aywhere near these screens - is the old fashioned fine sliver wire type or the Triplex Hotline - orange painted lines of cinductive paint. The earlier type fails through high resistance and the later type is easilt scratched - the terminals break off both sorts or again give high resistance so teh end result is no heating effect on the glass
Both types used Lucar spade connectors - one side being earthed (it makes no difrenece which as it dpends which side the cable run is made under the door sill stirp sand the other going to the accessory ignition switch and fused via switch on the centre console opposite the fog light switch.

And if it is of the later type, and is scratched, you can repair the break in the painted strip using a repair fluid. It's like a little nail-polish bottle or paint touch-up kit.

Ok Thanks! I think I have the orange-paint type. Not sure though. On one side there is an obvious bracket, about 2 cm wide, on the other however there is only a stripe of silvery material, connecting the 9 wires.
I guess I take the chance and weld wires on both sides.
Is there a way of testing it? Can I simply test with a Voltage-reader whether there is connection (testing each line seperately)

You can test continuity of the whole lot only with a Ohmeter or just connect it and steam up window to see if it clears. It seems to me it may be aftermarket stickon type which are still available. It may be the early verion used till aboout 1971. The orange version has no wires it is just conductive paint which can be repaired if the break can be found. The others cannot

Just one last question. Does the wire go right through the seal / rubber? Should I make a hole in it? Thanks! Regards Guus
