Hi all,my problem lies with the rev counter. When i turn on the ignition the needle shoots straight over to the right and stays there even when the engine is running. The needle returns to the left ( 0 ) only when the ignition is turned off.Any help as always greatfully received.

Sounds like an internal fault unless it been connected up wrongly in which case its probably ruined it. They are not very reliable and the electronics are past their sell-by date. See SEARCH for details of wiring and rebuild

On the way to Gaydon my rev-counter was over-reading to a ludicrous degree. At 90mph (I just made it for 10am ) it was past the red zone. Very annoying & another thing that needs attention besides the vibration which is more apparent at 40 than 90 which I assume does show it's directly linked to engine speed/balance rather than a static fault such as mountings.

I had to fit another alternator to the Range Rover the night before we left for the LR 60th at Easter. (Don't ask why). It had a larger pulley. The revs dropped by 500 rpm in top, but unfortunately the fuel consumption didn't seem to improve.

tried reading previous posts and still none the wiser.I would have assumed that there should be a connection to the coil, but i cant see one ! ! Looking on the back of the tacho i can see the looped wire and another wire i pressume this is correct.Any one by chance got a pic of said wiring and a clue as to how to trace where they go please ??Thanks in advance

Disconnect the induction loop on the back of the Rev Counter if it still reads full scale look for a new one or have yours repaired
