What do you think, of creating a new area, where the members could post in detail or not, restoratian projects, or smaller jobs that they have done to their cars. This posts with photos are not also pleasing to see but a great help. A kind of blogs on the forum. There are so many welll documented jobs that never get to be seen in all its glory. Most of times, members post an adress were they put their photos, with little or none explanation. Well... its just an idea. Miguel

What you want is a new category in the home menu just for restorations. I can not see members wanting to write a piece about the full restoration, but maybe pictures with a caption would help other members, URU 301J has promised to keep us posted on his restoration, so yes it could work.

Owning a P5/P5b is a constant restoration if you do a bit of searching you will find loads of postings in respect to part and full restoration by the guys on the Forum From my own experience it is such a wide subject to cover and really no different to any other classic cut out/replace/patch panels paint assemble/engine/mechanics/interior etc etc and if you are a member the magazine over the years has covered the subject very well

That´s true. One always get his questions answered, and the existing sections are way to do it. Probably its just me, but I find the search tool in this forum very inefficient... I´ve tried everything, from setting to 2000 days, etc... Anyhow, there is always the possibility of doing it in General section I suppose. It was URU 301J posts that gave me this...silly idea . I think the main reason for 'search' not being over efficient is it all depends on the key words that are put in to enable the search to be effective. Some articles are contained within other threads that have no connection with each other, hence the reason you cannot find what you are looking for. This sort of problem is widespread on any computer based search facilities. The computer is just a simple mechanical type of function and will only do everything in easy steps one at a time. In otherwords it has no ability to think for itself, and its probably because everyone is so used to computers doing the mundane tasks that we take it for granted. Perhaps the next generation of computers will be able to link say 'Dizzy' with 'Distributor' and this would make the 'search' task so much easier and quicker.

I think you've got a good point there John. So often posts wander off the original topic Just like I'm doing now If we could all be more disciplined in our postings things would be easier to find. Another thing, wouldn't it be good if the title of a thread said something useful? Recently we have had a thread with a single question mark as the title! If titles were meaningful and threads were posted in the right board (they mostly are) it might be easier to find things. Sorry to have wandered off topic.

It´s exactely that Dorsetflyer. It´s even worse for people like me ("me not english speak very good") that found out right now that dizzy and distributor mean the same thing... And that is only one example... As for you Mick, hope that you keep your promise! I know i´ll do that when I get mine going. Regards Miguel

Sure thing Miguel, I'm off to the Garage tonight to give the old girl another run (the Smoke Screen from Sunday should have cleared away by now).....
Seriously though, I'll put some more pictures on once things start getting going in earnest. At the moment, I'm removing bits and pieces at a time such as Bumpers, Boot Lid etc for stripping at Home.
Cheers All Mick

its easy to over look - number pf days - it defaults to 7 so amend to 1000 and number of posts - 10 default so set to 100!
Also try different key words - very little has not been covered somewhere somehow by someone

It took me ages to work out what a D-post was. And a Lock-up is somewhere that the police in a small town put someone overnight.

If you get stuck oz just ask me Generally us Kiwi's can translate quite well from Aust*uckinglalian to pomgolian and I have an advantage being an export from the UK 41 years ago when I was 5, but my parents are really good at proper English as spoken by the Kennedy's. You should have gone to grammar school as I done

Thunks Ellen. But you've given me an idea.
Miguel, see if you can get hold of a copy of "English as she is spoke". It's a famous Portugese-English phrase book written by a couple of your countrymen over 100 years ago using a Portugese-French phrase book and a French-English dictionary. Neither of them spoke English.
You could write down what you wanted to say and then use the book to convert it to English. Then e-mail it to me and I'll use my copy of "Let stalk Strine" to translate to 'Strayan and then post it on the forum for the benefit of my countrymen.
Allan could then easily convert this to Nyou Zilund for publication in their local Rover magazines.

I have been back to search and had another go, what i did not understand was that you needed to be in say bodywork and interios before going to search for door seals, i think this is correct as it seemed to work . I thought you could search for say petrol pump from anywhere in the system, i am not that computor literate so still finding my way around.

Just leave all the boxes ticked if you are not sure it just takes a bit longer to search put in 1000 days and 100 results
