Some of that mixed with a bit of tetraboost and the p5 will be running just like when it was new!

That's interesting. If Shell produce that it'll knock the sales of 4 Star, which I think is about £1-45 a litre at the moment and is only 98 octane.

Its really only of use if you have not retarded your ignition to run on 95RON unleaded, still if you don't mind re-tuning for this fuel, you should see a handy performance increase of course you still need your additive.......or do you? Has anyone on this board suffered valve recession due to unleaded? Ian

Mine did too when I changed over to in 1999 - I must have done over 50K miles in since so its not relying on lead memory

No big news there..........Tesco have been doing 99 RON for over a year now, and its 98.9 PPL here.

I've just returned from filling my P5B ready for the National. I usually use Shell Optimax (the Shell garage is at the end of our road, and the Rover is usually running on empty). They've replaced Optimax with V-Power, at £1.02 a litre. I'll let you know if it makes a difference, although I'm not sure what state of tune the engine is in, and the binding rear nearside brake (hopefully to be sorted today) probably doesn't help!

Tesco! Supermarkets are ok for food, but personally i wouldn't touch the fuel, it may be cheaper but its missing all those lovely additives that the major brands use to keep your engine nice. Of course, i could just be a petrol snob. Ian

The car ran very well to and from the National (round trip of about 80 miles with a mixture of motorway, A roads and town centres). Performance does seem slightly better, and it certainly appears to be more responsive. It's probably a bit early to tell, but I'll see what it's like after another tank full.

A good run always get these cars running smoother as it burns away carbon and drys out the oil

Just an observation: My 3 litre had always averaged around 18mpg but in recent times I have used BP Ultimate or Shell Optimax as the car seems to run better. What I wasn't expecting was the improvement in consumption to 20-21 mpg; which makes the petrol cheaper than unleaded.

I will have to try some as my 3 Litre averages about that locally in Summer - strange as the engine was not designed to run at over 98 octane
