My heater and fuel gauges have suddenly began over-reading, does anyone know where the 10v regulator is situated, or whether I have switched wires - I have recently had the dash wiring disconnected and conected up again?

It's usually on the dash rail behind the binnacle Dennis but they often get moved A solid state device is now readily available do a search for 2000 days with 100 results

The voltage regulator looks to be the culprit and must be connected up correctly but the terminals should ensure this. Do not use the gauges with them receiving full voltage as they will permanently damaged

Or if you need a quick fix, wire in a cigarette-lighter-plug voltage adaptor and set it for 9 volts. The gauges will read a whisker low but will be usable and saved from damage.

Is it located at the top right-hand corner behind the binacle? Can I get to it with just the two facia screws removed and without disconnecting the d**n speedo cable?

Yes it can be and sort of - all you have to do is disconnect the trip reset under the dash rail - its has a chrome screw nut. This will allow the binnacle to pull forward sufficiently

Thanks for letting us know - its unusual for an earth fault to create a non-failsafe problem but is logical if its realised how the regulator works! What caused it water leak or loose conection?
Faulty connections on old wiring will always create strange symptoms and will becoem more common
