With my growing paranoia over fitting the correct rear wheel cylinders, my thoughts are turning to the brake calipers. I know Phil has said in the past that the P5 and P5B are different and indeed they have different part nos. But what exactly are the differences? Also the pads are different between 3 litre & early 3.5 litre, and between early and late 3.5 litre. Presumably this is different grades of material. As the related discussion on wheel cylinder highlights, there is a question of braking balance twixt front & rear to consider. And as has been said before brake hoses are different P5:P5B, but interchangeable. Rover obviously thought it vital to modify the brakes to take account of the changed weight distribution in the P5B and in view of this I think it important to test the consenus of opinion and experience on just how safe it is to interchange brake parts between the two models.

I would say the pads are interchangeable as they are all identical and its only the material. P5B's pads were more resistant to fade. In any event modern asbestosless ones may be all you can get although I would always fit asbestos ones in preference
Do not worry! (about pads anyway!)

I agree with the Disk and Shoe composition smallfry when I was racing we bought enough pads for the season from the same manufacturing run otherwise it's like making a cake the next batch will be different. But I disagree with the swapping of brake cylinders they are designed to a specification to to glibly say fit them regardless if the correct ones are available is not the way to go, I am not saying under normal braking there would be a problem but I wouldn't want to be the one responsible to have recommended the incorrect part if under severe braking in the wet and there is an unbalance plus the consequences of police check and insurance check if it is a bad one If the correct parts are available fit them.

Yes you are right.
How foolish and stupid of me to suggest the idea.
I have deleted the offending post.
