Can someone tell me what is a sensible oil pressure reading on a 3 litre? Its a high mileage engine.
I should know this but it's been a long time since I drove a 3 litre.
Thanks

Ideally with the oil pressure relief valve in good order, around 60psi for a hot engine at fast tickover (say 1500rpm). I wouldn't panic if the pressure is 30psi on a worn engine. If the pressure is very low, try beefing up the pressure relief valve spring; no improvement would suggest an engine overhaul is appropriate.

Thanks,
I know my old saloon never reached the dizzy heights of 60 psi, but that gives me a good benchmark. The car has done 100k, so 30 is probably a more realistic figure to look for.

Is the reading from a good quality oil pressure master guage? If not the reading from a electric type guage as fitted to p5 & p5b coupes may not be accurate. Just a thought.

I'll just be using the cars gauge, I know its only a gauge and will not be totally accurate, but it will good enough to show any major issues.

The guage is only a indication and not to be relied on as it is affected by resistance of the sender and voltage

Is the gauge mechanical - electric gauges are not very accurate at all and neither are standard on saloons of any type

Well i had a look, nice car, needs rubbers :-( and the interior is not great, totally solid underneath though, oil pressure at the bottem end of green, regardless of revs...sounded sweet though, no rattles and no nasty smoke.
If I can sell the TVR I could be very tempted.....is it wrong to own 2 P5's???
Why am I even asking that question
