Hi All,
I have looked back but couldn't find anthing.
I am currently stripping, cleaning and painting my engine bay. whilst it is in bits I want to sort out the alternator.
It works fairly well but I have always been interested in one of the higher output conversions. I haven't been able to find the name of a company that do this sort of overhaul.
Can anyone point me in the correct direction please. I know I can fit another spec alternator but I would like to keep the 11ac.
Thanks Colin

Its on here several times - set for 2000 days and 100 posts "Alternator" Dead easy but then so is getting the original working. Virtually any modern Lucas will fit straight on with only with minimal wiring mods

yes plenty of posts regarding alternative units but not what I was asking for. I re-read the post and it was not clear. What I was interested in is the company that will take your original casing and rebuild it to a higher output. I am sure that I have read about them but cant for the life of me remember where or when. Colin

I cannot see the point really - you can get dynamo's with alternators built in which does give a useful higher output that the original 30A of the 3 Litre but to the uninformed even a modern alternator looks very much the same as the 11AC?
Its no big deal to convert to a modern one and no less "original" than a lookalike that may well not work as well as modern one and cost 3 times more

As a serial modifier and P5 pariah, I have no problem with swapping the 11AC for a modern unit, BUT, as the P5 and B is not overrun with high current draw accessories, there is no point in changing just for the sake of it.
The 11AC produces adequate current for the cars in more of less standard form.
My only problem with the 11AC and the other ACR series alternators, is the brush layout and size. Without going into detail, one brush wears quickly, and the other hardly wears at all, and IMO the brushes are too small in any case.
All other units have a completely different design, along with bigger brushes, and because of this, have a much longer reliable life.

Colin Colin, if you really really want to have everything looking completely original and definitely want to up the output a bit, I would be very surprised if any good autoelectrician couldn't point you towards a company who could rewind it for you, at a price.

all very helpful. but I really only wanted to know who the company was and have a look. whether or not it would be cost effective or that I would fit an modern unit is bye the bye. I like to know what is on offer before making the choice.
I will eventually remember who I was talking to or which magazine I read the article in.
