I had it pencilled in to go but unfortunately didn't get there in the end. In some ways I'm glad I didn't as I was on my out yesterday afternoon and just over halfway there the ignition light came on and only went off if I increased my speed to seventy miles an hour. Even then the ammeter showed a constant discharge. Even after starting the engine it will not show an initial charge before going back to zero. At the moment I suspect a failed dynamo but can't check it because I've only got a digital meter which of course picks up everything in the engine bay. There usually are some nice cars at that event and I'm sorry we didn't make it.
Just to update the above info, I replaced the dynamo with a known good one the warning light went out but the ammeter only showed a discharge. Only one possibilty left and that was the regulator. A new one was fitted and bingo the ammeter now showed a charge. Job done just in time for the National.
