Any suggestions as to why a new laptop has suddenly refused to let me log in and keeps saying Login error.
I can log in normally from the office and on the home desktop, and when I got the laptop about a week ago I was logging in from it okay. But tonight it's as if I was using the wrong name or password.
This computer (home desktop) still lets me in. I've tried logging out from here then back in again on the laptop, but no change. I've even gone into the settings and deleted all save passwords on it and tried again. Nothing.
Any hints or clues welcome.

Warwick,
Just a guess but if you are already logged on with one computer, you are unable to log on with another.
Try logging out. Wait an hour. Then try logging on.

In fact I waited all night and tried it again this morning; but no change. The office computer is logged in "forever" Pat, but the one at home is only on the default 6 hours. Logging off at home doesn't seem to help. I'll try logging off at work to, although this never bothered the home desktop. Ah, Windows - don't you just love it?

Very strange indeed.
I've got the laptop with me at work and I tried logging on as Ozcoupe but encountered the same problem. It goes straight back to the Log in screen and shows the error message.
However, when I log in now on the desktop I see that Ozcoupe is also logged in. So the board is accepting the log in but saying that it has failed.

Warwick, My school server won't let my log on as the term 'proboard' is prohibited. Perhaps you've been locked out by work restrictions.

XP I'm still too frighten of Vista to even think about changing. I have 'Vista' as it was already installed on the computer when I purchased it. Not had any problems really yet, although everyone keeps saying its not as good as 'XP'. I disagree with that as the security is much higher and there's a lot more you can do with it compared to 'XP'.

John, I'm still lamenting the loss of Windows 3.11 ... (well; just a little bit).
No this is happening on the laptop both in the office and at home Vince. It must be something specific to that computer. It's one of those brilliant little Asus Eee PCs from Taiwan. Tiny little thing with a solid-state "hard-drive". I suspect that while using the tiny little touch pad instead of the mouse, my big fat finger has accidentally initiated some preference or lock or something. I'll have to ask the IT crowd.
Besides, I work for myself and the server I'm attached to belongs to my ISP, in whose building I rent my office.

Yes, me too Phil. I can use remote desktop for the office from home PC or the big laptop from anywhere I can get a connection.
I tried to log in last night again as Ozcoupe but with the same results. i.e. The home page shows that ozcoupe did log in last night.
I can get full access to either of 2 other forums without any trouble. I suspect that it is something to do with that computer and this site. They seem to have fallen out over something.

Having checked, ther does not appear to be a 'problem' with the server/site.
Could be that the word 'Proboards' is a no-no on some servers.

Strange about this logging in problem. I have just come on to this site and had to log in. This is the first time since I have been on the site that this has happened.

Deleting all cookies (biscuits?), browsing history, and stored passwords was one of the first things I tried. I've tired logging on and off again from the 2 computers that work to see if it clears it but alas, no.
I've logged in on the home desktop under one user name then tried the other from the Eeepc but whichever way around I do it, it still gives the log in error on the laptop but the forum shows me as logged in when I check using the desktop.
It's not a server bloking problem as it's the same server.
It's a nuisance but not a disaster. It was nice for awhile to sit watching TV in the evening while doing a little bit of P5 browsing using the tiny laptop.
I'll have to ask the techies.

Very strange. My log-in problem with the little Asus laptop disappeared when the forum began allowing people to view without registering.
