I now have all interior lights working except one! This is in the rear passenger area between the door and the rear windscreen. The lamp is circular (Workshop manual - section S - electrical equipment P36) early type for 3ltr Str8. It has a black plastic bulb holder approx 2" x 1/2" with two short returns and is drilled out to hold the bulb - melted and destroyed. Also does anyone have a replacement clock!

The later Keinzle Motometer clocks will fit and are more reliable - its unlikely you will get a decent Smiths CE type theat works.
The later sort were used on British cars eg Fords/Morris right up to mid 1980's and can be obtained cheaply although later quartz types are not worth reparing.
You will be liucky getting the special inrerior light although Ebay will supply eventually.
You have a very early car which has many different parts to even later Mk1's although it can all be made to fit

Interior lighting is one area where LEDs really do shine. It really is worth going to the trouble of finding a suitable LED "bulb" and modifying the inside of the lamp to take it, if necessary. The festoon globes work best as the LEDs face outwards towards the lens. Bayonet cap LEDs have the LEDs facing sideways so it may be necessary to make a little 45 degree reflector at the end.
The big advantages are a brighter light and no damaging heat. I've had super bright LED festoons in the Range Rover's roof lights for a few years now and I fitted new lenses at that time. The old lenses were yellowed and cracked from the heat produced by the standard wattage incandescent bulbs. It's now like having a pair of fluorescent lamps in the car. Very bright.
However it is a stark white light. I intend using the same bulbs in the P5B but placing a piece of tinted cellophane behind the lens to yellow the light slightly to make it look more in keeping with a car of that age, but with a bit more brightness and no heat to destroy the lens or fittings.

I have fitted led festoons and prefer the whiter light. Same with instruments except I have put a blue one in the clock and a green one in gear selector

I haven't delved into the bowels of my dashboard yet. Will bayonet cap LED bulbs with forward-facing LEDs work okay in the instruments?

That's good news John. I do like LEDs - but mainly when you can't tell they are LEDs.
I don't know why but cars that have taillights comprised of LEDs, whether after-market or as standard, where the LEDs are visible as a series of dots, just look cheap to me.
