From Zaphod: Some footage of the winners at the National Event 2008 on track at Brooklands . here. No sound on this file (4mB, .wmv). The oriiginal is 17.5 mB, and .MOV format, and has take some work to get this converted to a mere 4mB. Currently adding the original to one of the video sharing sites. Link to come shortly. David, can you add this thread, or info to the main national topic, please, as it appears to have been locked. Strange - duly unlockedThanks. Addendum. A big thanks from all of us to all of you for attending The National. Excellent weather along with a good turn out made the day.I counted 72 p5's all in all, which i think is a pretty good turnout. I will let you into a little secret.................................. Out of the 45 or so who voted for there best car etc, around 20 of them didn't seem to know a 3ltr Coupe from a 3.5ltr Saloon. It was quite difficult reading out the reg no's only to look down the list and see it had already been voted for under a different catagory .Anyway that's why it took a little bit longer to award the prizes. Well done to everyone who won a prize, and the standard of some of the cars was exceptional. Glenn...please do not bend over like that again,as i will have to go and get a bike to park in that crack Oh and that large hamper only contained a mini pork pie....so he said, cos he's on a diet. Once again thanks for attending the day. Ps.i hope you all liked my wheels ;D Big Kev.

Yep, many thanks to all who staged this years National, you did a great job. The weather was perfect and it was great to put a face to names from this site. I was surprised how much interest there was in the fact that a MK11's oil level could be checked without getting your hands dirty (not 100% accurate but good enough). The only downside was my exhaust was blowing a lot worse on the return journey, and on the ramp this morning discovered that one of mounts behind the centre box had sheared from the pipe leaving a large hole. I used a piece of thick repair foil to cover the hole , then bound the pipe with tape. Its back to being lovely and quiet again. The next thing is to get a full st.steel system fitted in the next week or so.

Who won the oldest/best 3 Litre saloon then- there seems to be at least a couple of Mk1's? Looks to have been a good day then? PS I locked the the thread as its NOT current but PAST so a new one of the actual day would have been far more relevant. The old one would have then be deleted en-bloc as no longer relevant given previous comments about old dross etc on here

For the benefit of those of us that found it difficult to attend (Thankyou to admin for the kind invitation e-mail), perhaps someone could put some user-names to faces please.
I recognize GlennR. (He's the bloke with the shirt made from a redundant corner of an Australian flag).

What are the chances of seeing photos of the 11 prize winners then - especially the oldest P5 at the Show!

Judging by the comments and general 'fedback' it sounds as though everyone who attended enjoyed themselves. I was a bit irritated by one of our regulars (Slvr Brch-winning V8 Coupe) who complained that he hadn't seen any direction signs for the exhibitors' entrance to Brooklands. I was out & about before seven on the Sunday morning and placed SEVEN 420 x 300mm dayglow yellow signs along the three miles stretch of road between the Fairmile hotel and Brooklands. There were nine signs put up in total. I did not have the facilities of Surrey County Council's Highways Department at my disposal, only enthusiasm and an A3 photocopier. I've satisfied myself that it wasn't an erector's problem, more an observer's one! I even went out at 8:30 in the evening and collected up all the wretched things. Anyone planning a P5 rally and would like to make use of some signs that (a few) people will ignore?

Many thanks to all those who organised this year's national. It was a really good day and nice to meet up with so many old friends. I know how much work goes into organising these shows and the reward is when so many nice cars turn up. My brother and nephew, in the pink Isetta!, broke down on the way and on the way home! I did not have a problem finding the way in as I followed David Lee, but the posting for the M25 east seemed non existant going back.

Just to clarify my grumblings, there were actually two award-winning Slvr Brch V8 Coupes last Sunday, which may have caused some confusion. I wasn't refering to owner G.P., but to Sir Lancelot. If Lady Penelope's chauffeur could just bring himself to have the radiator fan guard tidied up a bit (sand-blasted and powder coated in gloss black?) and stick a couple of labels on it (readily available from JRW or D.G.), 'Best' rather than 'Runner Up''d be his! Sorry about the lack of signage for the M25, but the road leading from the roundabout near Brooklands down to the A3 at Cobham, during the week, is always ata standstill giving drivers plenty of time to set their Sat.Navs, 'phone a friend or get their road atlas out of the boot. Finding the M25 during the week is therefore not a problem. G., you maybe one of only a dozen drivers who has ever tried to find the motorway on a Sunday!

I'm sorry but I don't know what all the fuss is about, it was well signposted after turning right off the A245 on to the B374. The return journey was no problem. Finding the eastbound M25 again was no problem just a case of following the signs. The only satnav I have is in my head, and I relish finding my way around all over the country without one. I had to be correct as I was the lead car on the way back and it would be most embarrassing to get lost (now I know why they all sat in a layby waiting for me having filled up with fuel).

I found it so confusing that I turned back and spent a quiet day at home instead. The directions given seemed to assume that one was already in England.

I have only just seen your reply Richardzf (!) as Lady Penelope and I have been touring Scotland. 2000 miles in a week and ran perfectly, will post some pictures when I can remember how to do it. As for the fan cover and the sticky labels, I have had new ones for years, but the old ones stay as they remind me of that day 33 years ago when I first lifted the bonnet and saw them, perfect then and now old and wrinkled, like me !! ;D
