Just happened to pick some friends up last night when the girlfriend pointed out a P5B parked up. As us great lover of these cars do i went back today to see if it was still there? Result it was, doesn't look that bad from what i could see quickly but did have a tax disc ending in 2002 Any one know the car? going to phone the shop tomorrow its parked outside to see if i can find out anymore info and will keep you updated.

I hope he is getting taxed/MOT'd and insured quickly then as the owner will be breaking the law parking it on what looks like the pavement unless its land belongimg to the premises.
He is asking for it to be towed away leaving it there and not necessarily by law enforcers

Quick update. Spoke to the owner who says the car is in daily use (tax disc of 2002) doesn't get a disc as its tax exempt!!! (updated him with the new law) He isn't using it at the moment as the starter motor is stuck but would be looking for £4k Any one seen it before?

Interesting - looks a bit on the high side at that price - its got the sill trims though!
Do they not have traffic wardens etc in that neck of the woods?

Is to high from having a quick look and as for the traffic wardens i think it is a form of car park for the shop and anyway we have a few banger boys around this way and being only 25mins from Wimbledon they will have it if hes not careful

100's of P5's must have gone that way as there was a highly popular speedway locally that fortunately closed sometime ago. (but not for good) Seats/trim and chrome often got trashed before anyone got near them

It's the first time I've heard about a new law not requiring a current tax disc to be shown. I have only recently taxed one of mine, and it matters not whether it's tax free or not, it must have a current disc on display. He's likely to be done by the police for not having a current one. Not only that, I wonder if he has a current MOT certificate. If he hasn't then it won't be insured either. If what he says is correct I could quite happily go out on the road with one of mine that's SORN'ed, so long as I have a tax disc of any year I can find for that car. Sorry I don't believe a word of what he says.

I believe I'm right in thinking that even if a vehicle is exempt under the pre 31/12/72 rule, it must still display a current tax disc, which is obtained free on production of current M.O.T. & insurance. This helps the D.V.L.A. keep a check on uninsured and non-M.O.T. vehicles - No M.O.T. or insurance = No tax disc.

Absolutely 100% correct - its not even been registered since the new SORN regs came in

All of you are correct. You MUST always display a current tax disc no matter if the car is exempt. I think all he was just saying that to make out that the car is better then it is, and not that the fact it is likely the car has been of the road since 2002 and needs work so is not worth the £4k he would want for it

Very disturbing to read about the Rover equivalent of the Bodysnatchers Burke & Hare. Surely if someone steals any car from a driveway and it is then seen being smashed up in a race, wouldn't the Police be arresting the thief or am I living in 1950's Dixon of Dock Green land? Do the banger boys tend to nick anything big and old as we don't have that sort of problem in the SW (I hope )

It happened the Sunday afternoon before the pre 1967 race meet the night and for this event all cars will be big and well built. As for the police by the time they got out the the owner took his details went back to pass it to a different department and so on..... the race had happened the car was smashed and scrapped. By this point the owners was told his car was found and its now down to the insurance company and thats as much as i know.
So if you hear of a pre 1967 banger racing meet near you lock up your cars

I understand that some people may not understand the new tax rules and no one has said the car doesn't look the "dogs go nad's" as you put it, all i said was from having a quick look at the car i didn't think it would be worth as much as £4k. Yes the car has had time and money spend on it that why it was worth a phone call. As for getting a life, mines fine but thanks for asking

The "new" tax rules have been around well before the turn of the century!

This is a very sad situation. I read Colin's earlier post over and over again in a effort to understand what he was trying to say. I can forgive him for his inability to communicate in English which he must find frustrating, but ill-mannered offensive diatribe cannot be tolerated. I hope he mends his ways, but Dave, if Colin keeps this up he must be banned.

I don't think that it's a case of 'if he keeps this up he should banned' he should be banned right now and any of his disgustingly ignorant posts should be removed from this site.
The one thing this site doesn't need is totally ignorant rantings from someone who has no knowledge nor any interest in the classic car movement. If he has a classic car, then God help any club he belongs to.

I totally agree! What a very sad thing having to read those outbursts in this forum ... I am certain there will be other forums for such as him which will be only to happy in trying to understand what he is trying to express.
