This poll is linked to the other poll. Please read both. Thanks.
At the AGM it was discussed whether we should make the Forum available to club members only . Obviously it would be great to have an open forum, but consideration has to be given to those members who pay yet get no additional benefits against those who gain from this forum, yet make no contribution to the club.
Emotive I know, but the question, I feel, needs to be asked.

I think a third option is needed: Should only certain sections be open to all and membership required for other areas - Works well on www.TVRCC.co.uk and www.NPOC.co.uk

Oh, please bear in mind that as the current forum is open to non members as well as members so there will be a number of non members voting to keep the availability free to them.
This poll should be amongst paying members only.

I have voted to have free access, as I believe that it will benefit the club and members more than if we are a closed society. There are always going to be freeloaders, but that's life so why should we be upset?

My feeling is that the forum should be open to all, because that is the spirit of the internet and because it seems pointless limiting the number of people who can discuss P5s.
But, maybe there are other ways to create a 'club' feeling for paynig members.

I found my p5b using this web site and i also posted before owning and becoming a member. I think locking the web site to non members well be a bad idea. I no if i couldnt post before coming a member i would of looked somewhere els. Is there not some way that we can restriect what non member can see and do if they done become a member after a set time? Other than that i dont think it should be locked to non members

It costs the club to run the site so how about none members paying say £10 a year to access the whole site?

As soon as you make a charge for viewing,no matter how small the charge is, your numbers will plummet until there are half a dozen people saying the same things to each other just like the magazine used to be. Listen to the views of Tonyaa and Andy who have become owners because they were able to access this forum and learn from it. I think the more people that can freely read and learn about our cars the better. What is the point of restricting access to a site like this?

See your point but there would be no forum if the club did not pay for it and run it - anyway its does seem to be the same few that contribute?

Forget about the cost issue. The forum is for the benefit of members and is paid for out of our subs. It costs nothing EXTRA to open the forum up to others but this in turn promotes the club and the marque to the world which benefits everybody. As for contributions, I make it a rule that I contribute ONLY when I feel I MIGHT be of use to others. I am not a mechanic, nor do I have any manual aptitude; but I love these cars and have some limited knowledge. This is why I value the forum - I can tap into the vast combined experiences of my fellow members and enjoy the camaraderie.

Contributions need not be solely mechanical any P5 experiences/problems are useful

The 'Forum' should be open to anyone as it has and will bring in new members to the 'P5 Club'.
This will as been previously stated from others start as looking for one of our type of cars, through purchasing it, and sharing their experiences through this site, and eventually joining up.
This site cannot replace 'Take Five', as there are a lot of members out there who neither have the means or the interest in the'Internet'. This means that the magazine is their only means of contact.
Perhaps with a little more advertising of this site and more of the'Board Forum' articles, other members will be interested enough to see what it's all about.
By the way, the 'new look' Club site looks very smart from the two sample pages. Well done!!

What about adding to this site a clear advertisment for the club including photo's of the Take 5 magazine and some tempting snippets to maybe lure non members into joining the club?. Maybe the header could be used as this is an instant wham! (sorry George Michael) when you sign on. It is worth a try and wouldn't cost a penny to advertise. This site is a fabulous radio beacon and reaches out to hundreds of people, maybe some have not heard of the Take 5 magazine? I feel this site could be used to lure more members rather then turn them away.

I would not have bought a p5 had i not spent spent hours trawling through the forum before i joined the club.Knowing that there was a group of enthusiastic owners more than willing to share their knowledge and opinions took most of the fear out of buying a car that i knew very little about. It would be a shame to see it closed off to non members.

Recent postings show the value and interest brought in by new owners who have browsed and found this excellent site. Keep it as it is with no restrictions and welcome all contributions (apart from one recent outburst!!)

Slightly linked to this I think carts and parts for sale should only be viewable to club members for a certain period of time before they are opened up to all.
Having lost out (by an hour) to non members who agreed to take parts from a member for profit. The member being a gentleman honoured the agreement he had already made but he felt guilty about not being able to help me...a member.
So a selfish one but I do pay for this forum as well...

Most members care not to use the forum anyway so those that do especially who are not paidup will naturally vote for its continued free use to all

Hi, I'm a non member who has just bought a P5B after looking through the site extensively. In fact, I bought the car from your 'for sale' listings. Believe it or not, my Dad is now awaiting delivery of another P5B he also bought from your site which should be with him today! He just couldn't resist after seeing mine! The web-site has been an invaluable resource for us, and although we weren't members, we expect that to change in the very near future. Keep the site open to as many people as you can. It will pay dividends in the long run, both for the club and its members, and for the survival of the P5. Cheers, Richard.

What you say Richard speaks louder than words. As has been said before, generate enough interest which this site obviously does, then potential new members will get themselves a Rover P5, enthusiasm will abound, and hopefully this will turn in to new members joining our club. Welcome to you and your Rover, perhaps at sometime you can post some pics of it. Good luck to your Dad and hope he too finds a good one.

I can't vote in the poll because I feel there should be a members only section where club matters, things advantageous to members can be discussed, offered for sale, etc etc

As a non-member I do appreciate I am being subsidised by paying members but as I am a member of P4 Guild and P6 Club I think this is reciprocated by me subsidising any of those of you who may from time to time browse those sites. Much as I would like a P5 finance and space currently prohibit this but I still enjoy visiting and participating in the forum, and who knows maybe one day............

I have a 1959 90 an an early 1964 2000 under restoration. Did once own a 72 Saloon and was a Club member for a few years in the late 90's but life got in the way.... say no more! Hope to get another one day.... can anyone tell me what happend to Nick Mathias (I think that was his name) that used to do all the Club spares. Used to live somwhere west of London I think but he doesn't figure in the Club mag or on the website. No ulterior motive just curious. Did enjoy the national in August at Leonardslee so wouldn't have known about it without the webiste so hopefully another reason to allow us non-members in maybe?

There should be member only areas where club business or preferential things such as parts for club members could be discussed/offered. Maybe even parts or cars for sale could be offered by club members to club members first before opening up to the general public. Then there is an incentive to join the club rather than just use the facilities that members pay for.
