is there any way to re stitch the seams without taking the leather off, i dont think there is but i read somewhere that there was a kit to do this available, probably written by someone selling a car with burst seams though.

Far more damage will be caused by trying to bodge the job and stitching from the outside. This often results in torn leather.
The only way is to partially remove the front seat cover with the (heavy) seat out the car and hand stitching with waxed rot proof thread backed by a tape.
You may well find the foam seat cushion is rotting/crumbling so this will have to be replaced

It is possible to do SMALL repairs to some of the stitching without stripping the seat. Use an upholstery needle (semi-circular shaped) and waxed thread. For extensive repairs, as Phil says, the best solution is to strip the seat.
