I think that the answer to this will be no going by posts that I read but there was no firm answer.
Would a 1970 coupe have wires in the loom for the otter switch and warning lamp?
My car was fitted with AED from new so obviously has no warning lamp on the dash board. Did all coupe models come with AED?
It is not a big deal as I am going to be doing re-wiring a few items but would obviously save me a bit of work.

The revised 1968 edition parts supplement only gives one part number for the coupe loom RHD 565987 Colin but this will be before they changed to manual choke so someone with a later parts book should be able to compare long live the AED

According to James Taylors book Cassic Rovers 1945 - 1986, the aed was fitted in 1968, but he says its reputation was destroyed partly because supply difficulties forced the factory to fit a number of cars with manual chokes, also the device was not as reliable as Rovers would have liked, by 1974 Rover offered a manual choke kit which many owners would have fitted.

Thanks John,
My parts catalogue shows that part is up to suffix 'B' with additional part numbers from Suffix 'C'. I suppose that means that it could have been deleted from the loom.
I wonder how the manual choke was retro fitted by rover to such cars, maybe they ran the choke in without the additional lights. I don't recall seeing wires for the otter switch but will have a look in behind the clocks and see.
Hope you had a nice christmas John.

The conversion did not use the Otter switch as the console was not drilled for the warning light and neither did the looms include the wiring or the cable warning light switch
I have done this on mine though!

cheers Phil I thought as much.
I will do a neat wiring job for the otter switch and lamp.
The choke fitted currently doesn't have the otter switch or lamp but I want to fit them. I feel it is the small touches that make the difference to a restoration.
Cheers Colin

Yes but it is not original! Only very early 1967/68 "3.5 Litre" cars used a manual "Cold start" T handle with the dual bracket under parcel shelf (next to Fuel reserve pull) and the lower Right lamp on the console - the top one of the triangle being the red Ignition light and labelled as such "3½ Litre" cars only used the bottom row so the ignition light went in place of the yellow Cold Start

Supply difficulties and reliability problems made the change over very vague and as you say export models may not have had them fitted till later on. Think yourself very lucky!! By 1969/70 most were being fitted with them as mine was. Some owners specified the manual version as well before the "official" kit was introduced after production ceased to counter waranty and customer complaints - these customers were influential persons then

My car is late 68 and has manual cold start with the warning lamp, i had trouble with the cold start cables, so i bought some from rover parts of London, he had them made up, the two cables went back to the handle so pulled the two together, but you end up without the T handle which is a shame, it cost £35 with VAT, which looking back may have been over the top.
