Yes, it was Jim Matthew and his birthday that got all this going. Strange where some threads lead - even some of the technical ones.
Anyway Jim, I hope you enjoy both your birthdays, whenever they may be.

Whilst I remember there is also a Panamera... the Porsche being launched this summer. Beautiful to look at. Almost as good as the P5!

Sorry, probably not the right place to have posted it, but if there is anywhere more appropriate for non-rover car pics, hopefully Dave can move it

I think we actually need a section for non-Rover miscellaneous stuff.
By the way Jim, there was a doco on TV a couple of months ago, about Mr. Darwin the canoe man. What a convoluted, tangled mess that whole story is.

Warwick, I'd have been interested in seeing that. No follow-ups on the news here, but with a presidential election a couple of months ago, there were more than enough home-grown scandals!
I'd agree with adding a section for "non-Rover rides" - the w-body site has something similar, which seems to work well, though I would certainly not recommend following their example and including a "political" thread, seems to bring out the worst in people!

Thanks Dave. Want to move my pic over to there or have me report it?
By the way, your car looks great, but it can't possibly be 18 years, I'm not that old!

Hi Jim Yep, 18 years .... no comment. Should be picking it up within the next week or so. Post in the new section and I will edit ths post. Panama is a bit of a distance away. Fancy being our rep in South America/

Dave, thanks, repost done. I'd be happy to be the Central American rep (South America is a bit too large and difficult to get to ..... no road links south from Panama to Colombia .... the "Darian Gap" being the one break in the Pan-American highway and a no-manĀ“s land occupied by Colombian drug gangs and terrorists!), particularly if it covered the Caribbean too! BUT, I suspect the constitution (didn't I originally write it?) wouldn't allow it, since I'm not a paid-up member!

Now there's a challenge for you Jim. Why not be the first to take a P5B through the Gap. Range Rovers have done it, and Snetterton did that amphibious crossing of the Andes (I remember seeing the documentary), ... so how hard could it be? You just need someone to lend you their car.
If the canoeless doco turns up again, I'll record it for you.

Warwick, done! When can I expect you and your car to arrive in Panama for the expedition? We could probably use a few bodyguards well used to adverse conditions and dealing with undersirables, so you'd better bring the entire club committee with you After an 18 year restoration, Dave's car would obviously make the ideal support vehicle! Did you see how long it took the Range Rovers? Add on the time spent being held hostage by FARC, and you'd better have very understanding employers!

Isn't the convertible in Oz now? Probably best if you brought it with you Warwick ........ it would make an ideal platform for the "guns"!

I'll ask Bruce if he's willing to have it modified. The army has a fleet of locally-built open-top 6x6 Land-Rover light recon vehicles being replaced in the next 12 months or so. The machine guns from those could probably be mounted in the back seat. Is Snetterton still alive? He could act as guide. Michael Palin may know of his whereabouts.

What you need is the Overfinch P5B. It's bound to come up for sale - yet again. The perfect Panananamanamian Q-car.

On the subject of FARC, I saw on the local news that they are recruiting in the Darian area .... and offering a salary!
Panama is a country where the temperature seldom drops below 80 degrees, yet the local Sears clothing store is selling balaclavas!
Is there a link between these 2 facts?

Ah; are Panamanian balaclavas applicable attire on an average Darian area attack? Are they acrylic, or alpaca?
