Last week the indicator started playing up. Occasionally the right hand one would not work Today on the way to work the right hand one stopped and the left hand one became intermittent. On the way home they both stooped and smoke started to come out from behind the shroud as I pulled into my drive. Pulled shroud off and looked at switch smell of burnt Bakelite removed switch from loom and car and took inside. cleaned and carefully disassembled.
It was very worn and the spring loaded contact that slides in a nylon slot was badly pitted so over heated melted its nylon slider, slid out of place and caused a short and the short had caused the nylon to melt further. Used some resin and rebuilt the nylon slider and cleaned up contacts. But not to confident even though now back in car and seems fine would like to source a replacement ideally a good one as car is my daily driver.
Does any body know of any other vehicle with the same switch that may be easier to find in NZ
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I would have a word with David Green Allan with postage I wouldn't have thought it would be too expensive and not worthwhile trying to find a substitute I would check the indicator unit Allan? plus I would have thought the 15amp fuse should have gone

I believe JRW does a refurb kit for the indicator switch. Might be worth giving him a ring or e-mail him Allan.

There are no equivalents - there are even 2 different versions for 3 Litres. However most British cars of the late 1950 and into early 1970's used a very similar type of Lucas switch eg Morris Oxfords and perhaps some bits are interchangeable

Allan,
Why not use some little relays and take all the load off the switch. That would also allow you to replace the wiring to the switch with new, flexible, light-gauge wire while you have it apart.
