work having slowed to a crawl for a bit, i,m intending to finnish off the last little bits on the car, i read in james taylor's book that:- 1)the sills on v8's should be black 2) the coachlines on the body should be the same colour as the roof and the roof the same as the body is this right? i've seen black sills on one which was in great shape, but then ive seen others in equal nick with coloured sills, as for the coachlines ive never seen trhis but this guy must be an authority and he says so, has anyone got a car with original paintwork, so i dont know, thanks.

Yes the sills on the V8's should be semi-matt finish. If you see them painted its because work has been done on them and they have been incorrectly painted in body colour.
As regards the colouring of the coach lines this has been covered a multitude of times in the past and its a case of using SEARCH to get the answers.

I very much doubt any cars are left with the original satin-black finish - Even George Parker's (Lagain) excellent Coupe has had them re-done but too original spec and to the correct cut-off

I have repainted my sills twice over the years. The problem being stone chipping. When I first had the car, in 1975, I blocked the ends of both sills, drilled holes under the stainless treads and filled them with waxoyl ! I then unblocked the ends and let them drain. This was fine until the sun came out and warmed up the sides of the car. After a few miles the sides were covered in a thin film of Waxoyl but it has done its job and the sills remain rust free.
I have used Satin Black, which seems to give the best cosmetic finish, but it does chip easily on the undersides, so I would recommend using an anti chip paint first, just on the underside, before spraying the entire sills.

The black continues along the wing and then round the wing edge. The trim, when fitted correctly, is level with the top of the sill and also level with the end of the sill in front of the rear wheel. Where the trim finishes on the front wing the edge of the satin black is about 2mm below the top of the trim. The wing needs to fit correctly at the bottom, if there is a problem with rust pushing the wing out the trim will not fit flush.
