Hi, anyone able to recommend somewhere that will rechrome Rostyle wheels?
I vaguely remember Practical Classics mentioning one in a feature sometime last year, but can't find it in the few issues that survived a house move ...

SPF. It is a very difficult thing to do, or should i say it is not as easy as it looks. Spratley does them although I have heard reports that they are allegedly not to a great standard. It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has bought a set.
The wheels have to be split from the inner rim to the outer rim. They are connected by rivets which seem to be unique to each wheel and have to be replaced in the correct order. This involves: Initial rough polish, Heavy Copper Plate (16-20 hours in bath) republished then Nickel and Chromed. It's the nickel and copper plate that is very important for an excellent finish. This is one example although there are different methods as I am sure somebody else will disclose.

I recently had some Stag trim done by London Chroming, in the Old Kent Road. They made a very good job of them, but for a Rostyle wheel you could be looking at several hundred pounds each wheel. I don't know if it is possible to do it without splitting the wheel, but once split the thickness of the new chrome would have to be spot on, otherwise it would not fit back together

Thanks, have checked out Spratley suggested by GlennR. They do split the wheel, the re-assembly of which they have had tested by an organisation STATUS. I asked STATUS for a view and was advised that their tests showed that the re-assembled wheel was at least as strong as before. However, obviously the tests don't comment on the quality of the chroming. Spratley quote £150+VAT per wheel. Might see whether London would quote. Thanks.
