I gather then you have fitted the new seal then? You may need to adjust the striker plate. This is the plate where the boot device connects to the catch near the boot floor. Undo the two bolts. (I think they're 7/16 or 1/2) The plate probably need to be raised then re tighten the bolts. A lot of trial and error I'm afraid.

HI, just to let you know i have done the boot seal. I have used a universal boot seal with the same pattern but not as thick,I had to bend the lip flat were it sits on then just push the seal on,looks just as good as the real thing, and only needed minor ajustment on the plate, got the power wash out blasted round the boot lid, HEY PRESTO,bone dry

Maybe that's why it was half-price! All the rubbers (boot, front and back windscreens, four doors) fitted perfectly to my Mk1 without adjustment. Purchased from Scotts, Australia via David Green.

My two cents. I'm in the process of replacing my boot seal with one I bought from Scott's. It's a tedious process, to say the least, but I'm trying to be careful and learn from those of you who have gone before me. The old seal was badly deteriorated, coming off in sections of two inches or less, often looking almost melted. See photo of the carcass in a garbage can. Attachments:
