Given that the bulbs are correct - why are my brake lights so dim? Given the 12v supply is from the same fuse point as your flashers and 10v regulator are these OK? otherwise it only the switch and connectors feeding the lights! maybe a bad earth or poor connection on bulb holders? as it is both lights the same measure the voltage both sides of the brake switch

You have a hydraulic switch which is likely to be duff by now. It screws into the junction on the bulkhead just below the hand brake. It could well be correoded connections at the rear lights or the bullets in the boot or at teh driver side A panel trim as well or even reversed connections and its using the taillights filaments.
The volt check should prove this
The red lenses also become dirty inside
