i had this question a few months back, i was told not get anything that exceeds 3-4 psi, apparently the facet 40105 is the right one, and you dont need a regulator. i bought a facet from ebay listed as being appropriate for a p5b but it wasnt at all giving around 15 psi, so make sure.

Thanks Garethi and smallfry, thats the one thing that puts me off these pumps is the noise, but it is a job finding a mechanical pump, and I want to use the car this Sunday, Barry Kent tells me he has one but has just sent me an email saying he cannot get up to Rushden untill next week.

It really depends how and where they are fitted. Mine is low down at the front on the n/s inner wing. It can be heard outside but not inside at all and the reserve facility is retained. I have never had any sign of vapor lock since fitted 10 years ago and intant start even after standing weeks
I can hear the standard SU fitting in the boot of our 3 Litre so I would not not contemplate fitting it there (despite its favoured position by Facet's instructions) and the reserve facility would be lost too unless 2 are fitted!
John Wallet has fiited his very neatly under the transmission tunnel - there are pictures

12 years with a professional, that's a disgrace. :oYou must be a very patient man!
Sound like an interesting story. I hope it isn't the well-known restorer of Rover cars?

mine isnt noisy its in the boot, the only time it makes a noise is when the tanks nearly empty, which is good becuase my feul gauge is broken.

Garethi how long have you had this pump in the boot, the 40105 pump you have is the small square one has it got a plastic box over it as this is the latest type which is supposed to make less noise, a company I spoke to told me the 40105 is not man enough for a V8, they told me that all electric pumps push better then what they pull, so have you had any trouble with this pump, where did you mount it in the boot. Has anyone else used this pump.

no mine isnt the 40105 thats the one i should have bought, but as i bought the one on ebay which was far to powerful, hence my feul regulator which is set to maximum restiction, the 40105 is the one which the senior members on this site recomend, I'd listen to them before anyone else theyve been running on them for years apparently. thing is about them saying its up to it we're running through su's which can only take 2-4psi, as was pointed out to me.

i,ve had no trouble with it, except that you have to use locking bolts which were not provided with my model, due to the vibration breaking the contact with the car ( its got a negative earth), and that i had to run it through the reserve pipe rather than the normal feul ,lline as it wouldnt draw for some reason, but as phil points out if you mount in boot as i did you lose feul reserve. if its any help have a look at the thread 'electric pumps' on page 2 of the mechanical section.
