Yes I know there is a lot on search and I have had a look, but what is not quite clear is if the 1.5 ohm Pertronix coil needs the ballast resistor still ,as these type of coils are normaly 9 volts does anyone out there know.

Email or phone Pertronix and ask them.
They do several different types of coil to accompany the different ignition systems they supply, so you have to know what system you have, or what it is you want to achieve.
Better from the horses mouth as it were.

Norvin, as posted on another thread I just fitted the 3.0 ohm Pertronix coil. And I am very content with it. Although in the handbook they do not recommend it for 8-cyilnder-engines. The ballast resistor cable is still present in my P5B. Following the handbook only 1.5 ohm coils are suitable for 8-cyl.-engines. A ballast resistor would not be recommendable in my eyes and experience. I had a 1 ohm coil before and the voltage at the coil hardly exceeded 6 volts. Now I am at a perfect 9 volt with resistor cable and 3 ohms. Hence 1.5 ohm would go ideally without ballast resistor (cable). Regards Mark
