Thursday, August 6, 2009 New Feature: Free File Attachments
ProBoards is proud to announce our newest feature: Free file attachments for all forums. Previously a paid feature, our attachment service now provides 100Mb of space for all forums free of charge with a maximum file size of 1Mb per file.
When you open a reply window you will see under 'Subject' the Attachment option. Select 'Browse', go to the location of the file on your computer and select it.
When uploading an image, a thumbnail preview will appear that is clickable to view the full size image. Normal files (such as zip files) will include a link to download the file.

Thank you very much. The new procedure you describe seems much easier and straightforward than the previous photo bucket arrangement. I could never seem to get a proper handle on that.
Well done that man!

Glenn
If you have a photo filed on on your computer, use the browse button to locate it. A small thumbnail will appear when you post your message.
Regards
David

It might be easier, but I think it still looks better when an externally linked 800 x 600 photo is incorporated in the post. It makes it seamless.

I'm not sure Warwick. Just look at Glen's renovated P5B interior!

I think he's overdone it Peter. Rover would never have put a red button on the seat belt release. Too gawdy - it cheapens the look of the car.

I know what you mean Warwick regarding the external linked system which can still be done.
The 'attach' method is an alternative for those who do not have anywhere on-line to upload photos or find it difficult to use the original system.

It depends on the size of the image that has been attached or uploaded Norvin. The best size on most screens seems to be "standard" which is 800 pixels by 600 pixels.
This gives you a nice large clear image on the screen without the need to scroll sideways to see it all. When a larger image is used with the externally linked type (Photobucket, etc.), it forces the thread column out wider and all the text on that page gets pushed wider too making it necessary to scroll sideways to read all posts on that page.
The main advantage of the new attached image option is that it is there permanently and can't disappear later if the photo gets deleted from the photo-hosting site or gets moved to a different folder on that site.

Thanks Warwick, like you I find it a pain in the backside if you have to slide backwards and forwards so you can read the post, I do wish members would resize the photos before they post them.

Some us have only recently found out how to resize! But yes I agree and have resized some of my earlier ones and also others but it is not a 5 min job!
