Hello everyone
Bought a 71 coupe a couple of weeks ago. Started picking off the many jobs that need doing. One simple job as I thought was the rev counter wasn't working. Had a few cars of this age and the rev counters were connected to the - side of the coil , but obviously the p5 were different! Had the rev counter off and there are 3 wires (excluding the bulb) going to the back of it. There is one in the center that is a live , and two bullet connectors that seem to be a loop. I assume that this type of rev counter senses the pulses of this looped wire. I put a volt meter on the wire and you do get a fluctuating voltage , so I thought wiring must be ok and it was the rev counter itself that was faulty. I have now fitted another rev counter that I received from David Green which I assume is fine , and it still isn't working. Is it possible to view any wiring diagrams on this forum and has any one had a similar problem ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

Had everything apart today and with the use of a multimeter have found out what goes where and is connected to what !
The feed from the ignition goes to the coil + pole through the armored trunking , comes out of the coil - pole and then goes back to the rev counter , through the loop and then back down to the connection by the coil and then across to the distributor.
Any way to cut a long story short , cleaned up the connections down by the coil and I now have a rev counter ! ;D One more thing ticked off my ever growing list of jobs that need doing !
Thanks for your reply
