Bottom of page suggests "click hear to not show advertisements" or similar. Link only takes you to a subscription page the the ProBoard organisation! Or is it me?

Has the hideous ad for teeth-whitening pushed you over the edge too Eric? Or do you get a different group of ads over there?
Yes, you have to pay a subscription to to avoid them.

In Germany we had a tombstone scene and then all of a sudden a wailing voice started up. Thats was enough to whiten anyone's teeth.

seems to be like paying for a haircut and coming out with less than you went in with! Whoever heard of paying money NOT to get something!

Gentlemen,
Proboards, who's forums we use for free, make their money from being able to sell advertising on our site. Alternatively we can pay to remove the adverts and they will then make money from us.
Seems straightforward, but if we do pay to remove advertising, then club money is being used to support those on this forum who are not club members.
I agree the adverts are not idea, but over time I really don't notice them when I visit this site.

Those of us who are not IT scholars should be forgiven for not knowing the intricacies of websites. I for one was not aware that the invitation was aimed at the Webmaster and not the users. So i guess that when i am about to provide my payment details, a message will pop up to say - "no thanks! Webmasters only!" or similar. If the opt-out is only available to Webmasters and not users i don't see any references to this.

Given this background the ads are not a problem for me David.

I think it is an individual opt out option Eric. I tend not to notice them too, except for a couple. The reclining blonde inviting us to play an on-line game, and now the kid with the plastic rabbit trap in his mouth.
I'm not actually complaining as I understand the process. However I am amazed by what some people advertize. The server software can obviously detect topics discussed in the threads and it attempts (often unsuccessfully) to display advertizing that targets that subject.
Clearly something we have mentioned here has led the machine to believe that most of us have yellow teeth.

I tend to blank them out. I just imagine my wife is nagging me

I agree - just ignore them - it is certainly not worth paying for the privlege of not having them Do you realise this answer covers the original question and Glen's
