Hello, I have a 1964 Mk2 P5 3 litre with a Borgwarner DG auto box. On the column change I have the selector stick and anothr smaller one just in front of it. Ive been told Its gear change speed lever. The idea being... you can select if you want to accelerate quicker by holding in a lower gear or if you want to change up quicker for better eco. In Drive, when I hit about 20mph, and th box changes up through 2nd and on to 3rd almost without hesitation. The change speed lever makes no difference. Are the two issues related, and how do I fix it? P.S. There is a small fuse holder just behind the little change speed lever. There is no fuse in it. Mabey the two are related? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated Thanks Dave

Ther is no fuse but a pea bulb for scale illumination you may be mistaking?
The lever works as a 1st gear start (down) and holds 2nd longer. Normal operation is always 2nd gear start
1st speed start can also be obtained by flooring the accelerator which acheives the same but with less dignity!
The solonoid on top of the box can be adjusted to vary change up speeds - you should hear it clicking on/off when switch is moved.
Check you get kickdown from 3rd to 2nd at about 30mph in "D"

now that u mention, no my change lights dont work.
If i remember when i had the interior out, There was a big 4" bung in the top of the transmision tunel, is that the access point for the solenoide?
Kick down doesnt seem to work. But i think thats just a slack cable. Il probably sort these bits after its got its MOT, so i can check them on the road.
Thanks again Phil

You MUST get a WSM!!
The cable does have a lot of slack as it works on the solenoid unlike the BW 35 kickdown
