Ello..... On the rear wheels of my MK3 resto, there are some weird centre cap things, which stick out further than a sore thumb. I believe that they are guides to assist with puting the spare wheels on... though why you would need such a thing with five studs to assist is beyong me... but they are there, and i do not want them there. How do i get shot of them? Can i smash them off with a large hammer?

Absolutely not - they are perfect and make refitting and postioning the heavy wheel a doddle as you just spin it round to locate studs and push. Such devices were fitted on Rovers since pre-war days. They are only rivetted on in the centre if you must remove them them though

I wasn't asking for permission to remove them, merely advice on how to remove them ;D I know what they are there for, and if i were sticking with original wheels and larger than life hub caps i would keep them, however, i am going to put rostyles on the car, and with centre units like those, it wouldn't work... the car would resemble a roman chariot. They gots to go!

One of mine got knocked off when the rear wheel detached and overtook me. Big hammer will remove it in one go!
