Greetings all from Australia,
I have recently purchased a Rover P4 95, and am absolutely delighted with it. I wish I had got into Rovers much sooner.
Of course liking the P4 so much leads to the obvious question - how does it compare to the P5? What are the pros and cons of the two? I know they ran concurrently for some years, so presumably there was a significant difference other than appearance.
For my taste in the P5 I would probably choose the six cylinder model - not because there is anything wrong with that wonderful V8 engine, but just that I have owned lots of them in Land Rovers and Range Rovers.
So the real question, should I buy a P5 to go along with the P4?
Grateful for all suggestions!
Cheers all,
Paul

Welcome Paul.
Get 2 of them! A 3-litre Mk.II Saloon and a P5B Coupe.

You're a man after me own heart! Unfortunately I am shed-challenged and only have room for one more...... This is why I am interested to know how a P5 drives compared with a P4. Cheers, Paul

I have them both its a 1961 100. More old fashinoed but a very good classic. The 100 IMHO is the best model for every day use as I do with ours It very quiet and comfortable but not as fast (but quite fast enough) or spacious. The brakes are identical to a P5 so first class but it rolls more on corners but itts quite safe aand the steering is heavy at parking speeds especially with radials - power steering was not an option and its different to a P5's as well. I do have power steering fitted though

Why not try one?
I presume you're in NSW. Need any contacts?

Exhaust and other engine noise can easily be dealt with, but road surface noise and wind noise are not so easy to control. My P4 is ecellent in terms of road surface noise, but does have a lot of wind noise. How does the P5 stand in this respect? Cheers, Paul

On radials P5 tyre noise is higher than a P4 but wind noise if doors are adjusted and seals good is lower. A late Mk2c P5 overall is quiter, faster and smoother than a P4 but a P5B is not as smooth or quiet as either but fastest of them all

Mine has a blown head gasket and has been waiting since last Easter for me to put the heads back on - so it is an exceptionally smooth and silent P5B. But drop me a PM or e-mail when you're heading down here next time. Do you get to Canberra at all? If so, get in touch with another Paul. He has one that works! roverp5.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=viewprofile&user=paulcnb

Thanks
Its surprising how spacious, luxurious, comfortable and nippy P2's are - very traditional but not the average 1930's car and of its has the freewheel (which P4's had to the late 1950's)so no need to use the clutch to change gear once rolling

Pretty thin on the ground in Australia. Ah yes, Land Rovers, marvelous. I have three still, but the 101 and the S2B forward control models were sold sadly due to an interstate re-location. Sigh..... Cheers, Paul
