Hi All, I am seeking information on dip switch wiring, unfortunately the colours do not match the workshop manual colour code. All wires to the dipper are original black (not painted) 1 single, 2 double wires, the 3 terminals on the back of the switch are numbered and one terminal is a double I assume for driving light connection and that would be the high beam with the double to be connected to optional driving lights. Any information or diagram appreciated.

Normaley only main beams go to the dip switch, the single wire will be the warning light, they would have been colour coded at one time.

If wires are black then they hav eeither lost their fabric cover or are of incorrect spec - in either case they should be renewed - one of then wwill be the common nsupply - probably the single - and the go to the centre switch contact the other two go to the remainf two terminal each. Only 1 combation ouf 3 will work properly and no damage will be caused so experiment if you cannot rifg up ameter/test lamp to identify the Common which is permantly on when the console light switch is on and the column switch is down

Hi Phil, Thanks for your reply, problem resolved by sort out with a multimeter,
All the wires are Black cotton covered no paint and original, like a lot of the wiring I am finding on this car, Rover I am sure have used up other parts when they ran out of the originals going down the assembly line.
Similar problem with the wiper and wiper rheostat switches where the colours do not line up with the wiring diagrams in either workshop or owners manuals. The car was a one owner before me and has only covered 21000 Miles so no chance it has been molested, has sat in a shed for the past 35 Years before I purchased it for restoration. Should be on the road in 2 weeks.
Do you know which coloured wires are the high and low speed wires out of the wiper motor? loom wires from the switch are the upgraded colours and all do not match up. Regards, Ian W.

The wiper motor wiring had a variety of colours - a number of past threads on this - in the end its just matter of trail and error but beware shorts and ruining the special dash switch
