It seems that this new site is a resounding success and far more people are contributing to it. Keeping the old site linked to the main club websiteis confusing and I doubt now there is much benefit keeping it going. There is a wealth of info on it but a lot has been published in Take 5 and its easier to ask the qustio again that trawl through the hit & miss search. This site has proved its worth and popularity so its about time the old one was put to rest? Apparently it cannot just be left there Any other views

I am not a web expert but the old site might as well be closed down as it is defunct and any topics can easily be brought up on this newer site. Richard

As the old site cannot be locked I think we must consider deleting it. As a source of information it is rather difficult to use, even more so if you are not familair with the old board or your newly acquired Rover. As we now have a specific 'filing' system on this site, a wealth of knowledge should hopefully follow As Phil has pointed out most if not all such queries have been covered in 'Take Five'. It is hoped to repeat relevent technical information from old issues of the club magazine. So from this Sunday 6th March, the old site will be deleted.

Guys,
Forgive my somewhat panicky response. But, having only just acquired a P5b and only just become a member, I am worried that the vast amount of valuable information still available on the old site board will dissappear into the ether somewhere by the planned closure. This will necessitate, more or less, starting from where we are with this new site. Admittadly, there is a fair amount of information already on this site's board, but I believe that it is in no comparison to what is still on the old one. Have I got the gyst wrong here and perhaps worrying over nothing?

As the old site is slow and difficult to use it makes sense to do away with it and concentrate on the new one. Topics will come up fresh on here and get answered in a way that makes it easy to find them in the future. RIP old site. Geoff

I do undersatnd the reasons behind the decision to change. But to lose the mine of information that is on the old board would seem criminal (purely from a selfish point of view). It would, I imagine, take quite some time to accrue such a depth of problem solving ideas with this site. Still, if this is a "fait accompli", looks like I'll be busy this weekend printing for all my worth.

The old site has been going off line for months - there is a real danger with some of he advice on it when read out of context so its better to ask the question again.
More people use and contribute to this site now so there is a wider range of opinion on a particular point.
James Taylor's book is a must for any enthusiast

Hi Techy Tom and Dave, Are you going to put a Magazine, Membership, Regalia links etc on this site as was on the other one? When I located the site many moons ago I was straight in there with my subscription / membership. I have looked briefly on this site for any answers to this question but could not find any relevant answers. Keep up the good work! ;)Glenn

Agree that new site is a success. Agree also Glen's comments that same functionality on links would be useful. Also see that all old knowledge is no longer available. Why would we want that?

Pat - The old site was to close at the beginning of February (as shown at the top of its page) - I was hoping to simply lock it, but the server/supplier cannot do this. The 'wealth of knowledge' on the old site was and continues to be a problem to find. This new site will, by its nature, be easier to source and more specific to enquiries. Those who have offered advice and technical information on the old site, continue to share their knowledge on this site - for which I am sincerely grateful - so any questions will, I am sure, receive a reply.
Glen - good point. I or Tom will look in to it.

Is there no way the content can be copied onto one's own PC so that it retained permanently When the old site crashed once all the info was lost then but one or two out there did say they had copies. I've tried but my computer knowlege is too basic

Torsion Bar, apparently there is no way to 'save' the lsiting for future use.
Boardserver, have not responded to my requests and there is no information on their site as to ways of saving our old board.
