Hello, I am à new member from the Netherlands.Since August 2010 I have an original dutch P5b so LHD.It was in a reasonable condition but It took me until this week to get it on the road.I had also a donor car a 3ltr for spareparts. Now the car is ready and I can driving it for the first time: it is marvellous to drive and what à sound! This forum was very usefull for me especialy for my leaking steeringbox. I followed Warwick and replaced it for one of à Volvo 164 which are here easily to get LHD. It was a nice job and very good to be done. In the past I owned a Volvo164 and the steering of the Rover is very similar.

Hi Frans - welcome and we hope to hear more. There are a number of Dutch owners and some on here too - nice to think that you too like a British car from years now long gone forever

Hello All, for many years I always drive all kind of old Volvos but now I am retired I want the car my father had during the sixties. He had a 3ltr saloon, manual/od with a lot of troubles I remembert so I was à little afraid when I bought mine but until now it seems to go okee. At the moment I am working at the cooling system and then I have to work at the ignitiontiming for running on LPG only. So there is always a lot to do. By the way where can I put a vacuumreader for adjusting the timing? Is the place of the AED à good place? I dont use that because of only driving LPG. My excuses for my poor english.

Hello Frans, Your English is very good. My Dutch is non-existent. So you are miles ahead of me already.
You may have performed the very first LHD Volvo conversion. Congratulations. When you have time, it would be interesting if you could post details and photos so we can see how it differs from the RHD conversion. Did Volvo use the same box for LHD and RHD? I suspect so.

Hello Warwick, that I am the first one who makes the conversion surprised me because the steeringboxes of the Rover gives much troubles I read on this forum. There is a different in LHD and RHD steeringboxes. LHD are here in Holland easy to get and relatively cheap in compare with a revision of the Roverbox. I got a complete powersteering: pump, hoses, steeringbox and steeringrack of a Volvo 164 for 140 euro. I made a passingplate of wood confirme the picture on page 11 of this forum to try it out. It fits so I have it made of iron by a friend. The most difficult part was to make the connection between the steering rack of the Volvo with that of the Rover. There is a joint (for the safety) and you have to fix a plate on it that matches with the rubber coupling of the Rover. You cannot weld it because of the heat but my friend has made a very solid connection by frasing and boltfixing. The modern steerinboxes of Volvo have the hoseconnections no longer at a side but on the top so that is much easier to manage. Driving the car is better than the Roverbox:less power and very short turning like all old Volvos. I have some pictures but donot know how to put them here on this forum.
