Today, as I was adjusting the belt tightness on my dynamo, I d**n near burned myself on the coil, it was so hot! I hadn't started the car in hours, and the wires are connected correctly according to Phil's many posts on the subject.
Any thoughts on what might cause such a problem?
Thanks,
Gordon.

The coil would get hot if it had a voltage supply and the engine was stationary with the contact breaker points closed . It is after all a coil of wire and has a ressistance. Maybe you left your keys in the ignition and in the " on" position?
