I have spent some time deliberating where the best place to post this item is. As it covers both P5 & P5Bs I've put it here. I am currently refurbishing my Austin A35 and utilizing a 70 page booklet issued by the Austin A30/A35 Owners' Club. This is an invaluable and wide-ranging resource giving details of the cars' development and differences, supply of spare parts, sources of technical information, publications, and index of articles in the club magazine, modifications and alternative parts, listings of part numbers and alternatives, and information on roof racks, towing and fitting seat belts and child seats. It is packed with useful information.
It is also a labour of love to keep it up-to-date and costly to republish. How much better I thought to have the information online, and then, wouldn't it be a good idea if the P5 Owners' Club did something similar.
I know we have the forum, which is a mine of information but a mess when it comes to finding that information. Searches are problematic - just what should one enter in the search box. How will others have described the topic? Will they have spelt it right? Then there is the 'noise' in the thread, all the extraneous comments and drifting. It can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I have a proposal for discussion. Why not try to build up a body of information on the lines of Wikipedia where an author writes up a topic and after verification it is published. Others, who have further information to add, come along and rewrite and submit it as an amendment.
Over the years it would result in a very useful resource; I would suggest available to members only.
Administration needn't be too difficult and we are not going to get comprehensive coverage overnight.
Would other members like to throw their thoughts into the melting pot?
