The lack of progress by the owners of Image Cave would seem to indicate their site should now be considered akin to the fabled Norwegian Blue Parrot, ie deceased, dead, no more etc. What would forum members suggest as the best alternative free hosting service?

I use Photobucket. It's probably one of the oldest.
But that does bring up an interesting point. Is it better to add photos directly onto the forum now that it is possible? There is a lot of very important (well, to us) information on this site and a lot of it would be worthless without the accompanying photos, should they disappear permanently.
It may not be possible or even practical for the author to repost his or her photos here.
I have continued to use Photobucket and add links in my posts because I prefer the correctly sized images that this gives, rather than attached thumbnails which require opening in a separate window from the text.

Yes, could someone remind me how to upload images DIRECT from my computer. I have done it but I can't remember how!
Fortunately, everything held on Imagecave was also on my computer.

Sadly you cant do a direct upload You have to have a Host to upload and download from.

Doesn't the attachment function do that John, and display them as thumbnails?
I've never used it myself.
That's the problem Crossplies, you may not have lost the photos, but we've lost any that you posted here unless you work your way back through all your old posts and replace missing photos.

This seemed to work although I have noticed a couple of things. a. If you preview your message before posting, any attachment is removed permanently. There is actually a message telling you on the preview page, although it's easy to miss. b. If you want to modify a post with an attachment, you can't change the attachment. You can't even see it. This is probably the safest way to permanently post photos here as you aren't relying on a 3rd party site, but the images aren't as good as using a link to another hosting site because can't look at the full size photo and still see the text in the post. You still need to resize the image to 800 x 600 to avoid making it too big for the screen. Attachments:

No, not particularly. I've signed up for a free account with photobucket so I will transfer some stuff to them and then set up my avatar

Can someone tell me how I get an image from Photobucket on to this site?
I've selected "insert image" and typed the link in but with no success.

I am able to post photos directly when I use the iPhone app for pro boards. Simples.....
Take photo, post thread or reply, select add file, select photo and bob's yer uncle.
But then again, I am in the younger part of the club so thing like that are easy for me..........lol!
