Bidding on a period radio at the mo on" The Bay", then realised I didn't know where the speaker(s) would be if they were factory fitted. Would it have been a single speaker behind a grille as found in the P4? Not to keen on fitting any on the scuttle, did that on another classic I owned and I kept catching them with my feet whilst getting in and out ! So, where would they have been fitted ? A search on the site came up blank.

My 72 Saloon has one in the grille above the radio and one in the middle of the rear shelf as original. Also has a fader control between the seats for front rear fade. I was talking to some guys at the NEC (from Autosound) about their retro looking radios with fm and ipod dock etc. They sell some replacement speakers that will normally fit original apertures and some have multiple drivers as well. I was going to look into this for getting a good balance between sound and period looks. link is: www.autosound.co.uk/acc/classic.phpmy car still has an 80's 2 spindle radio cassette fitted which works well except for the awful standard speakers!

I used two small Bose speakers that just fit under the parcel shelf, covered them in the same Vinyl as the door trims etc covered the fronts in matching speaker cloth no alterations or screwing hard to see which was my intent! they sound fine to me they probably lack a bit of base to the ICE connoisseur

Special radio fixing kit similar to P4's but not the same with grille above. Same on P5 and P5B'S and replaces centre glove box and lid.
Optional rear shelf speaker - P5B had holes punched in shelf but grill had to be fitted in P5's. Volume/balance control fitted to heater switch on tunnel in P5B's

The guys I spoke to had a single speaker with dual voice coils so you feed them a stereo pair. Thought it would be interesting to replace my single front and single rear with those. Less than 50quid a pair too.
Loads of other jobs for me before that though!

Nah but I have subs and all that in my daily driver
so not really needed for the old bus! - just a better sound from standard locations and not a door card cut in site.
That company do conceled speakers that can be mounted under the seat etc as well.

What I want is keeping the center glovebox useable and make no holes in the door panels for the speakers. So the radio and speakers must be hide in the parcel shelf under the dashboard
Did some of you make this type of installation? Pictures welcome

Cyf,
In my MG i made some small speakers under the dasboard. The speakers were in its own plastic housing (approx 12x12x10cm) and i made some brackets to fit them. Peter

Hi Cyf my speakers are just the right size to be a tight fit under the dash I never measured them I covered them in the same material as the dash and the cloth on the front is a matching shade, they are not fixed as I said they are good fit, my radio is in the center glove box with a matching veneer IF I remember I will send you a picture a bit busy at the moment so "I will try to remember"

Does anyone know of a source to buy a proper replacement sized speaker for the factory front grill mounting in a P5 Coupe? The original speaker measures 4"x7" with mounting holes 3 5/16" apart in both length and width.
