Corbin, did you find mondeo calipers that would work with these discs? I've looked all over and cant find any that will take a 28mm thick disc. The jensen vented disc is 20mm thick but the jensen calipers can have a larger spacer between the two halfs to accomodate the wider disc. It may end up as transit disc and jensen calipers.

I must admit that I never realised the difference in thickness of the discs, thinking on it though. Why not mill 3mm off each mondeo brake pad and move away from that over priced old Jensen stuff. Either way you seem to have it worked out.

Taking some off the pads did cross my mind, but at the moment i'm looking for a solid disc with the right depth. Toyota avensis is favourite at the moment. Its 1mm away from right which can be machined off. Its a shame really that i cant find vented discs the right depth i love the look of them. I modded the accelerator pedal linkage to give me full throttle today, its highlighted the need for the LSD and some good brakes so the axle swap has gone to the top of the to do list.

Happy to oblige, a word of warning , not that I'm trying to get you to suck eggs, it's heavy stuff with a load of force required that's going to go somewhere when the taper breaks free, so be very careful. Here you can see the parts, they need to be hefty, it's no good messing with Sykes's pullers they are just not up to the job. I used a wheel from an industrial materials handling piece of equipment that is 3/8 inch thick with holes drilled to match 5 inch PCD and in tension and it was stretching under load. I oxy acceteleened out two holes to slide in a substantial bar with reinforcing pieces welded on. Through the bar is a 12mm bolt. Hear you can see the spanner protruding to hold the internal nut in the end of the 12mm bolt pushing on the axle. I ended up with a 6 foot scaffold pole on the spanner and a 4 foot pole on the 3/4 drive socket set, tightened it up a bit at a time and went for a cup of tea in the kitchen. I heard it break free just as I was dunking a digestive. Did the same with the other side, leave it loaded and wait would be my advice. Oh and leave the hub nut on loose to prevent the hub flying across the room when it cracks off. Good luck, I hope this is helpfull.

Thanks Corbin, I have to admit that i've cheated and hired a puller from a Jensen specialist.

Just wondering. The rear axle from an SD1, would that not be an option.? The gearing is higher and it has drum brakes. I don't know about the width and the bolt pattern.

[/quote] Well kaiser, anything can be made to fit, but as the SD1 has a longer pinion shaft, to get it to fit may involve modifying the monocoque, this would lead to BIVA inspection by VOSA which would be a result of loss of free road tax ( if applicable) and Q registration, minimum, and more than £400 lighter for the privalage. Not even considering the different width, not that different ratio's 3.01;1 then there is the rarity and mounting perches. So probably not worth considering, that is why people go the Jensen route, or CWP change. Feel free to try though, you might be lucky and get it in!! Good luck if you do

No, at the moment I'm happy with my standard axle. If the gearbox goes, I might try another box with an electric overdrive. I have one of those mated to a Cressida 3 litre engine, and it is something I think will suit the V8 to a T. Providing electrically operated OD with a switch and otherwise being entirely mechanical.

That sounds interesting, what gearbox are you going to use? you might have something there.
