Bookings are coming in well for this years Rally at Duxford Imperial War Museum. Spoke to them today and they have 25 different car clubs attending on August 19th so if they average 40 cars each club and some will be a lot more, it works out that there will be at least 1000 cars on display. When i know the clubs i will list them. To book in send a stamped addressed envelope to David Green, 7 Anglesey Place, Great Barton IP31 2TW. Jot down yout car model and registration and i will send you a booking number. Admission cost £9 per adult with children under 16 free. Hope to see you there, David

Phil, you pay Duxford as you enter. By the way Ely Service are once again sponsering the rally with trophies for the winners in each section David

Alright what is the weather down there like - its been raining none-stop since 2 O'clock here and there is localised flooding.
Is it worth us travelling 300 miles round trip for a washout?

Despite the mediocre weather - it did stop raining for a spell the turnout was really good. It was nice see a face to some Forum names I have posted my oipnions too on here to.
We had an eventful drive back in mainly torential rain though as just after turning off the A1 at Oakham and just through the sharp bend and going uphill at approx 30-35?, the rear offside tyre blew.
The car turned anti-clockwise, mounted the verge on the other side and ended up on the side of the road we were originally on but facing the opposite direction. Fortunatley no other cars were immediately around, or if they were they did not stop
The wheel rim (and tyre I suppose, but will be binned as well) was buckled. Had to change wheel in the rain.
I shudder to think if this had happened on the busy wet A1 - a modern car would have rolled I am sure

Yes thanks we are, looking back it was a little hairy. I wonder if I had not had the Avon Turbo Speed radials on the back wheels wether it would have held the wet road better? I have never felt confident with them so they are definitley going now - I have two well road legal ones with worn outer edges is anyone wants to risk them!

Nice to meet you Phil and your good wife. Strange how we were talking about jacking the car up at Duxford and then you had to do so later on. Well done on making it from Nottingham.102 miles I beleive. I am glad you were both alright and made it home OK.

Thanks - it took a 114 on the way back as we took a more populated route but way from the Nottingham ring road in case any unseen damage had arisen. I was surpised at the difference in distance and we only lost 1/2hr time!
Nice meeting you anyway hope to see you again soon

Hi all it was good putting some faces to names. I am sorry to hear of your trouble Phil and glad you are OK and the only damage was to a wheel. Forgot to add thanks to David and Chris and helpers for all the effort put in only to be rewarded by the rain but it didn't damped all the enthusiasm

Thanks John - I too should add our thanks to David & Co for organising the event, the weather this year has ruined or put-off many rallies but this went went ahead despite it

Thanks everybody for the kind comments about the Eastern Region Rally at a rather wet Duxford Imperial War Museum. 28 cars turned up out of 41 booked in, not a bad show considering the conditions. Thanks to all of you who attended and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.

I can only agree with the general sentiment of this having been a great outing despite the weather. At least it became a little drier during the day. Excellent video, Glenn. You really have missed your vocation. Where next? Cannes, Berlin, Hollywood? We walked over to the poor guy in his lovely Opel GT. Sadly, out of the 5 cars supposed to be there he was the only one not fazed by the rain. Apparently, only about 100 cars were ever imported to the UK and 15 or 16 are currently on the road. Considering that, maybe their turn-out wasn't so bad after all I was shocked to read your blow-out story, Phil. Having just met you it would have been rather poignant for our next encounter to be your funeral. Mind you, at least it would have been one with a Rover procession Finally, many thanks to David for all his organising and having a cap for the door lock pin in his pocket when I needed it most ;D. As soon as I have got the time I'll download the pictures from our camera, and if there are any decent ones among them I'll post a couple.

Thanks Peter, if it had been a modern car, it probably would have been many times worse , so many times these seem to end up on their roofs
