Don't worry, this is not a plot to lure you behind the Iron Curtain, just a way to make you aware of an event that involves - you might have guessed it - Soviet cars. There are indeed enthusiasts pampering vehicles made of Russian rust (sorry steel) ;D and they seem to be a rather joyful and energetic bunch.
According to their website www.sovietautoluxurytours.co.uk, 'As long as your vehicle is 1989 or earlier, and was built in a communist state, and as long as it's road-legal, you can join in the fun!''.
Anyway, the connection with us comes by way of their desire to see some decent British craftsmanship among their vehicles at their big meet next year. This e-mail arrived recently and it says it all: 'Could the Rover P5 Club assist with Soviet relations? The Soviet Auto Luxury Tour for 2008 will accept entrants from the Rover P5 Club!
Just a quick note to let you know that the SALT Commissariat is looking for a few Rover P5s to join in the fun on our tour of Suffolk during the weekend of 6-8 June 2008.
The tour is for vehicles of Soviet origin AND INVITED GUESTS, and we'll be visiting places of Cold-War type interest en route, but there are some places reserved for an 'accompanying diplomatic presence' - two are for Mercedes W111 Fintails, and a few more are for Rover P5s. For SALT 1 we had 3 Tatra 603s touring together, with other proletariat cars, but the presence of some Whitehall style P5s would ensure a more authentic feeling to the event - adding a bit of British backbone if you like!
Any questions, please feel free to call - the entry fee for the event is £25, and the hotel we'll be staying in is reasonably priced for our guests.
Please log on at www.sovietautoluxurytours.co.uk for further info.

Sounds great to me and Suffolk is right next door to me so we might turn up there. Wouldn't it be great to to have some ex-government metal there?
