Would anyone be willing to write a step by step process for upgrading your P5b to R/Rover electronic dissy? Preferably the one with the little black unit attached to the side. Would need to include any issues that would need to be overcome.
Please send through to me at the modified editor email address in the mag.
Many thanks Roy

Not necessarily John, I think you can use the P5 one by changing the oil pumpdrive over can't you?

Yes you can Roy.
I did this on my car a looong time ago so not sure I can remember all of the issues but the main one was making sure you change over the pump drive depending upon which version your engine has, male or female fitting for drive.

I know you can't go RR to P5b the other way is ok so in theory it would mean a male tang drive as per P5b fitting on the Lucas DLB198 of similar dizzy a simple matter of knocking out a pin and changing the drive? I was trying to remember years ago we tried with Glenn's car to fit a Lucas DLB198 but found we couldn't well not quite true I needed a miller at the time which I now have. I amended my post

You can change the dizzy drive to fit a P5B dizzy into an SD1 front cover and oil pump using standard parts, but not the other way around, but there's now a custom gear that can be bought for about £45 (IIRC) that allows the later dizzys to be fitted to the earlier front cover and oil pump. Personally I'd fit the oil pump upgrade kit with SD1 gears if I wanted to use the early cover/later dizzy combination rather than paying for the custom gear.

Basically if someone has done it I'd appreciate the info. I've got the dissy, I've got the car! so I can do the conversion and take some pics for the mag (without my car being out of action for a long time trying to fix issues I'm not prepared for)...
I would need to know the wiring too.

Roy, if there are 3 wires emerging from the multiplug they should be red/blue Black/white and Green/White
Red/blue goes to positive side of coil Black/white goes to negative side of coil Green/white earths onto tag on side of dizzy
Hope that helps.
When I said earlier that you can put the later dizzy on I was forgetting that mine is a much later engine and therefore has the later oil pump and front plate. Sorry about that.
I did say there were some things I had forgotten.
I have just been in the garage and checked the wiring though so it is correct as per my car.
