Does anyone on the forum have a picture of this plate in situ? I believe it is attached to one of the front engine mounts (PS). Also does anyone know if reproduction (blank) plates are available? Thanks ~ Vince

I think there is no chassis plate on my '65 MKIII. I noticed an aluminium plate on the left hand front door post with the chassis number. On the left hand engine mount is a stamped chassis number, not a plate. I don't know if it can be compared to your vehicle, because mine was first registered in Switzerland.

Thanks guys thats the information I require. My 66 has the VIN plate in the same position on the passenger side A pillar. I recall the other plate on the 'original' left hand front engine mount but that went 'south' when I changed the engine many years ago. So does anyone have a picture of this plate?

Hi Vince, As Udo said, there's no plate, only a stamped number. Here's pictures from my '67 Coupe. Cheers Steve

Thanks Stever & Udo for the pic and the info...my hyperactive nature tends to encourage speed reading and consequently missing vital pieces of information. . That makes it much easier. When I first re-registered my car after the engine conversion there was a bit of drama about the chassis VIN plate. I had the WSM and so could illustrate that it is indeed on the PS A pillar...where it is still located today but I will stamp the appropriate number on a small steel plate and weld it to the appropriate engine mount. Thanks guys. An aside: I have a 2nd cousin in Austria named Udo. My wife and I visited the family in Seeboden last year. For a period of approximately 2 weeks I would refer to Udo in my best aussie strine! One evening, after several cool ales had been consumed he finally cracked and politely but firmly corrected my pronunciation, stating his name was Udo NOT OOODoh!

.... he finally cracked and politely but firmly corrected my pronunciation, stating his name was Udo NOT OOODoh! Okay Vince; don't keep me in suspense. Please provide me with Australian English phonetic spelling of the correct pronunciation.

Hi Warwick . It's 'oo' as in cook & do as in "dough" ...not Udo as in 'ludo'.
